Introduction to English Grammar

First of all I would like to congratulate you because you are now at the third year level .In this year you are going to study grammar which is totally different from the second stage.This year you are going to have what is called syntax which is totally different from morphology.Syntax is the study of the way the sentences are formulated.The text you are going to conculte is called ENGLISH GRAMMAR by Quirk and other authors (1973) ,and you can have additional sources as Quirk(1985),Quirk and Greenbaum (1994) and you can have other sources from the net.In fact ,wevwill not come through the whole book but we are going to have only four chapters.The tittle of the first chapter is called :elements of the english sentece.The second chapter is called :the verb phrase and its elements.The third chapter is called :the noun,pronoun,and the noun phrase.The last chapter is called :tha adjective and the adverb.The first chapter is cosidered as a summary and an an introduction to the next three chapters.It contains some information about the basic elements os the sentence and the realization of each element and also it gives an idea about what is called operation and not all the auxiliaries are operators.In addition,it gives an idea about the proform and its types,as well as,the types of questions and how they are formulated.And what is called the open class and the closed items and what is the difference between the two.Finally,something mentioned aboutthe assertive and the non assertive forms.
