It is of two types: either with-s genitive or with of structure. The inanimate whether personal or non-personal takes both structures but for the inanimate, it takes the of structure.
Genitive meaning is not only to express possessing; it expresses seven kinds of meanings. These are:
1-Possesive meaning: my son s wife
2-subjective genitive: the boy s application
3-objective genitive: the boy s release
4-origin: the girl s story
5-descriptive genitive: a woman s college
6-genitive of measurement: ten day s absence
7-appositive: the city of York

Four animate noun classes take the –s genitive these are
1-Personal names: Segovia s pupil
2-personal nouns: the boy s new shirt
3-collective nouns: the government conviction
4-higher animal: the horse s tail
The inanimate nouns are:
1-Geographical and instrumental names: Europe s future
2-nouns of special interest to human activity: the game s history
In addition, the genitive can be ellipted: John s is a nice car too
Also, there is a double genitive: an opera of Verdi s
A friend of the doctor has arrived.
Pronouns 6-
They are different from nouns in:
1-They do not admit determiners
2-They often have an objective case
3- They have person distinction
4-They often have overt gender contrast
5- Singular and plural forms are often not morphologically related
Therefore, there are different types of pronouns. The table on page 101 clarifies such types.
